Marilyn Nathan is a very experienced educational manager, for nine years as the deputy headteacher of a leading secondary school. She also has management experience as the assistant director of a national childrens charity. Currently she works as an OFSTED inspector for both the primary and secondary phases. Her work as an education consultant specialising in management training, and as the External Adviser for headteacher review for over 40 schools, takes her into a range of schools in Britain and abroad.
Marilyn is also the author of a number of popular books on leadership and management including the Survival Guide series for senior and middle management in schools. Other titles include A Handbook for Headteachers published by Kogan Page, 2000 and Pastoral Leadership published by Routledge/Falmer, 2001 and the Headteacher’s Edu-fax (3rd edition 2009)and the
Leadership Team Edu-fax.

The course: Coaching for Success explores solution based coaching both as a leadership style and as a developmental approach which will support staff and make a difference to what they can achieve. It will help participants to understand the differences between coaching and mentoring and when to use each to most effect. It explores through discussion, DVD and practical activities what the coaching process entails and what the benefits could be for their school and for individuals Topics covered on the day will include:
- The coaching ethos: this session explores what coaching is and how it differs from other kinds of professional development, such as mentoring and how it can be used by leaders
- The coaching Process: This section focuses on applying the GROW model of coaching. It looks at preparing for coaching, establishing the protocols, asking probing but non-directive questions, helping the coachee to clarify his or her goals and work out the actions that will achieve the goals. This session includes a taster experience of coaching.
- The Benefits of Coaching: which focuses on the many benefits of the coaching process for pupils’ learning, for the teachers’ professional development and for schools as a whole. It also looks at what problems you might encounter in introducing a coaching system and how to overcome them.
Fee:
