The Course:
This lively one-day course aims to demonstrate and clarify the essential areas of science for primary teachers
Those elements of science that cause most consternation such as planning to meet a range of abilities, teaching scientific enquiry and assessing pupil outcomes will be addressed and explained.
This course will provide teachers with the knowledge and understanding to plan exciting science lessons, differentiate simply and effectively and assess successfully across the primary years.
Moreover, it will help to close the gap between the recognised need for good science skills teaching and the lack of confidence in this area expressed by both KS1 and KS2 practitioners.
This day will offer a range of exciting, enjoyable and effective activities that can be taken back to the classroom and used immediately with your pupils.
Teachers are regularly encouraged to design creative lessons that will engage and stimulate their pupils, as research outcomes indicate that children working on cross-curricular topics produce broader learning outcomes. Many activities will have clear links to other areas of the primary learning agenda, as science is an excellent vehicle for making cross-curricular links.
This hand-on inset will provide clear guidance and many ideas to enliven your science lessons. It is designed to make your teaching life easier and your science more active and interesting!
Activities during the day will :
- Highlight the key areas of importance when teaching science to primary pupils of all ages;
- Clarify and exemplify how each area of science progresses;
- Show how pupil outcomes inform future planning, differentiation and assessment;
- Exemplify a range of eye-catching lessons that will engage learners in their science;
- Make effective links between science activities and other areas of the primary curriculum.
- Describe exciting science activities that deliver both science skills and knowledge and understanding;
